Post-Holiday Hygge

My trip to Copenhagen this past May was a very special one for me personally, and was a destination where I felt instantly welcomed. Exploring the historic city of Copenhagen and the beautiful seaside villages elsewhere in Denmark - and briefly, Sweden! - was so lovely, and has me longing to see more of spectacular Scandinavia.

While in Copenhagen I stayed in a converted warehouse that dates back to 1805, in the Nyhavn district. Established as a center of commerce in the 1600s to support and control the burgeoning trade of the time, the Nyhavn waterfront and its canal are lined with colorful townhouses and historic vessels. I was lucky to be able to start and end my days in Copenhagen in this wonderful place, fully allowing me to feel transported and transformed.

Here is a photograph that I took while in Denmark, of an unnamed vessel. The icy blue line and clouded texture of the triangular field recall for me the unseasonably cool and erratic weather of Copenhagen during my stay, which produced snow, hail, rain, and sunshine - all within the span of an hour. I didn't even consider taking out my tiny travel umbrella - I couldn't think of impeding my ability to see more and all of that lovely city.

Here is Untitled ("Nyhavn").

I am excited to start the new year with the "A Night Out With..." art event series on January 15th, which features an artist discussion/presentation at Golden Eagle Art, followed by dinner at (my favorite) Nick & Toni's right next door. I will be chatting about my Boat Hull series, and showing new images as well as others from my photography related travels (Portugal, Spain, England, Cuba, Italy, Malta, Denmark, and Sweden) in what will be a fun and interactive evening. I hope to see you there!
